Fitters and turners are highly competent tradesmen who build things. Assemble and fit machine and vehicle components. Installations as well as other equipment or goods. Fitters and turners play a vital part in our society, and according to the National Scarce Skills List, they are one of the top skills shortages in South Africa.

National Certificate N1-N3: Fitting and Turning

A highly trained craftsman who manufactures and constructs mechanical components using power tools such as lathes, milling machines, and drilling machines. They maintain and repair a wide range of machinery. They are also in charge of constructing and fitting new components and equipment.

Fitters and turners begin by selecting and marking off the material needed to be based on precise measurements on blueprints, drawings, or a model. They then use power tools such as lathes, milling, drilling, and planning machines to shape the raw piece of metal into its final form.
